Future project: NMBS, Mechelen

The SNCB operates train services on behalf of the Belgian state. The total Belgian rail network is about 3,500 kilometers. The five busiest stations are the three Brussels stations Brussels-North, Brussels-Central and Brussels-South, followed by Ghent-Sint-Pieters and Antwerp-Central.

Central Workshop in Mechelen gets new state-of-the-art logistics center. The activities of the Mechelen Central Workshop include the long-term maintenance, modernization and repair of various types of passenger rolling stock as well as the stock management, storage and distribution of spare parts for all SNCB units. The new, automated high-rise warehouse complex (180,000 m3) will completely replace the current work hall by early 2027. Construction officially started on 30/12/2024. This project is a first and crucial step in the redevelopment of the Raghenosite into a sustainable new urban district committed to a mix of living, working and leisure. The project area is more than 100 soccer fields in size, is located right behind Mechelen’s train station and offers direct access to the city center. Together with the office building, the new warehouses form a cluster of different building volumes. Here, the building heights are the result of an economic search for the necessary free heights in the warehouses.

In Mechelen, Winlock will install nine fire resistant sectional shutters with 120-minute fire resistance (EI1 120) two fire shutters with 60-minute fire resistance (EI1 60).

Thank you NMBS and Alheembouw!
