Fluvius, high-voltage substations

Fluvius manages the energy network that keeps all of Flanders running every day. From electricity and natural gas to public lighting, they ensure that energy flows safely, efficiently, and continuously to millions of users.

High-voltage substations are an essential link in this infrastructure. These units convert electricity from high to lower voltage levels, making it safe and usable for distribution to neighborhoods, businesses, and homes. Fluvius builds, upgrades, and maintains thousands of these installations across the Flemish region. Each substation is a critical node that ensures the stability of the grid.

Given that these substations house powerful electrical installations, safety is paramount. A fire-resistant door plays a key role in this. It ensures proper compartmentalization, helps contain potential heat or smoke development locally, and protects both the technology inside the substation and its surroundings. The cabins are regularly inspected and certified. When an existing door fails inspection, Winlock installs a new fire door with 60-minute fire resistance (EI1 60) for outdoor use (Out Lock), finished in the characteristic green color. Each door is equipped with specific features: at least four stainless steel hinges, a three-point lock, an exterior anti-panic handle, and ATEX compliance.

Thank you, Fluvius!
