Future project: ICO, Zeebrugge

ICO Zeebrugge is a global leader in the handling and storage of roll-on/roll-off cargo. The company handles the loading and unloading of new vehicles, construction equipment and heavy cargo, among other activities. ICO also provides services in vehicle processing, ship agency, customs clearance and logistics. As a wholly owned subsidiary of the Japanese NYK Group, ICO handles more than 2.5 million vehicles annually through its terminals in Zeebrugge and Antwerp.

To expand its storage and throughput capacity, ICO is constructing Europe’s first fully automated multi-storage facility for vehicles in the Port of Zeebrugge. The facility will be built on a site covering almost 2.5 hectares and will accommodate 10,120 vehicles. Ten automated cranes will store and retrieve the vehicles without manual intervention. The project will enable ICO to increase its annual throughput capacity from 2.5 million to 3 million vehicles.

The vehicles will be stored compactly, requiring less than one tenth of the space needed for traditional outdoor storage. The number of internal vehicle movements will also be significantly reduced. The facility is scheduled to become operational by the end of 2027.

Winlock will install 25 fire resistant sectional shutters with a fire resistance of 60 minutes (EI1 60), more than half of which will be specifically engineered for Classic Conveyors. Thanks to their tailor-made design and precise sealing around rails, cables and other penetrations, these solutions are ideally suited to the automated multi-storage environment and ensure optimal fire compartmentation. The external shutter will be equipped with an Out Lock application, ensuring reliable closure while withstanding varying weather conditions and intensive industrial use. These shutters will form part of the fire safety provisions of this innovative logistics facility.

Thank you, ICO Zeebrugge and Alheembouw!
